Linux 7.3 RAM Question

Hi all,

If there's a FAQ or some other available response please redirect me.

I have a server running Red Hat 7.3 (2.4.18-3) and have just upgraded the RAM from 128Mb to 1Gb (2x512), but not all of this seems to be recognised. free -m offers 249 total.

I am aware there are reconfig issues and have tried adding:

append="mem=1024Mb"

to the lilo config file (which in reality is lilo.conf.anaconda. There is no lilo.conf file), but this does not appear to help.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks!

How did this one get into the programming
forum? :)

My first question would be whether
the RAM is being correctly detected by
the boxes BIOS ...

Secondly, once you cross the 900MB
line you need to enable High memory in
the kernel...

Could you please post the entire output
of free?

Cheers,
Tink

When I registered I was put into this group by default and I didn't check before I posted, although I have reposted in the 'correct' group. I also couldn't see how to delete my posting from this group!

As for the problem, I am beginning to think that it's a Mobo (Legend QDI) issue, although I would like to know if I could get this to work in some way.

Output of free:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 255908 207196 48712 0 44940 66052
-/+ buffers/cache: 96204 159704
Swap: 265064 0 265064
Total: 520972 207196 313776

Ta,

Hitaz
