PTrenholme also gave you the best fit equation in post #6. (Second END {} para).

Worked fine for me too.

In his example, he has the sample data in a file called "data" - created in post #10 - and the awk program script (the one with the shebang) is gav251.gawk.

So whats the problem?

when I cat ed my input there was extra text at end, it works!
