Learn Multimedia Framework(How Audio and Video playback occurs)

I am searching for a good content on web for last few days to learn multimedia working. There are lots of documentation regarding it. But I want to setup a programming environment on my linux machine where I can see what I am learning i.e if I am learning about metadata of an mp3 file then I should be able to write a code using some API or Framework and work on it to extract metadata myself. I have used SDL API earlier, if there is another better API you can think please tell me as I will be working on Android and if some API is more close to this OS that I can setup on my machine then it will be good, otherwise I am going with SDL.

If you have any suggestion then please tell me.

Thanks.

I'm getting the feeling that I'm not understanding the question here.

Obviously you'd use SDL for what it's for, and use a different API for reading the tags. That API should come with example code.

MPD uses libid3tag for tag-reading.

Hi dugan,

I want to write programs for audio and video playback. Just tell me where to start and from there I could understand things and I should be able to implement those things.

Thanks

I'd recommend looking into the FFMPEG libraries.
