ld and pre-linking

in my place of work to prevent pre-linking only root has access to ld. After telling him why it we prevent it they posed the question:

"But how do we then link our C/C++ programs on that box? Are there any proposals how to set this up according to IT standards?"

Anyone got any ideas?

I think both you and your are missing something. This cannot be the whole story.
I've worked in Unix longer than anybody in your shop - and I cannot make full sense of what the heck you guys are on about.

I told him that he cant use the command `ld' as its root owned. Its root owned to stop people from pre-linking files that they shouldnt.

He has naturally come back and asked "But how do we then link our C/C++ programs on that box? Are there any proposals how to set this up according to IT standards?"

Thats as simple as i can make it.
