LAN screen sharing

In a small LAN of machines all using the same OS, I need to write a small application that allows running small sessions in which each machine has its screen shared by all the machines.

What are my options to achieve this?

Before I switched to Linux, I could have done some of the work in old assembly language (DOS), I still like to use Assembly but I have not been able to locate anywhere the list of system calls allowing screen access (or their replacement in a multi-user environment like Linux).

I've used some javascript and I'm learning php.
Any advice most appreciated.

I'm not sure what you're looking for ... or how you would have done it in DOS.

Perhaps you might want to look at VNC.

Perhaps, instead, you might want to write a little Xlib "Hello world" and display the *same* executable (i.e. change the $DISPLAY variable) to different Linux hosts on your network.

Whatever your goal, however, you *should* be able to do it in Linux.

'Hope that helps .. PSM

Thanks to paulsm4.

I had never heard of VNC. I spent a couple of hours with GOOGLE and it looks like it's exactly what I was looking for, not only that but it's already installed on my boxes. Great stuff.
