Kernel Driver for Full Dell A920 Functionality

I have a Dell A920 (a rebranded Lexmark z600), and the current driver only has printing functionality. This device is Copier/Printer/Scanner capable in MS Windows. I'm interested in trying to further develop a driver for complete functionality. How would I go about doing this? Before you ask, I haven't done any kernel driver writing before. I've read some tutorials and am definitely willing to learn more. I would just like to use my device to it's full capability . Thanks!

I don't usually bump other's threads, but I find this one rather interesting. So, bump.
