Thumbs up KDB and INITRD

Dear All,

After successful compilation and updation of Grub.conf, I am not able to boot new kernel due to initrd, I feel. I am getting kernel panic due to not mounting of File system.

How can I prepare this initrd ? I find mkinitrd used to prepare initrd from http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/li.../l-initrd.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Initrd , Bur I am not getting tar ball of rpm for fedora 5.Kindly anybody let me know from where i can download tar ball or rpm ?

Another issue is I am trying to use KDB debugger for kernel.I am not getting its proper documentation. On http://oss.sgi.com/projects/kdb/ they are saying

"Documentation for the kernel debugger and manual pages for the kernel debugger commands will be located in the kdb subdirectory of the Documentation directory in the patched source tree."

Where this kdb sub-directory, I am not able to find it out ?? Can anybody help me in this regard. How to install with fedora core 5 or with new new kernel got after compilation 2.6.18.1 kernel ??

Please help me in the above stated regards..

Regards.

Ankur

Since nobody else is stepping in...

The current version of Fedora is 14, the kernel stands at 2.6.37... Thus I very much doubt, that the sources or any tarballs are easily accessible. Neither do you need one for a new initrd. Just cd into /boot, look whether system.map is there and issue an
Code:
man mkinitrd {for choosing the correct options}
mkinitrd -k /boot/vmlinuz-<kernel-version> -m ext4 -i initrd-<kernel-version>
Much easier would be if you still have a kernel.rpm to issue a "rpm -i kernel.rpm" and reboot.

Do you have kdb installed at all?

I'd suggest you open a new thread, provide the error messages and describe in detail what you did. Somebody more knowledgeable hopefully will step in .

Deara All,

To resolve init problem, I downloaded the mkinitrd ( a package to build initrd image automatically) rpm from rpmfind.net with the appropriate architecture, installed that rpm and then follow the same process of config..make..make install..make module install etc..The things will fine after that,I even did not updated the grub.conf..that was automatically updated by mkinitrd rpm

But struggling in the installation of kdb..

regards.
