JPEG Comment field

I need to set some comments inside a jpeg. I have libjpeg and stamp for linux development.
This comment should be embedded inside the image (shouldn't be 2 seperate files) I also learned the jpeg comment field is already inside the jpeg. I would like to view it say using acdsee, I can check the comment check box, then I can see the comments with the image, otherwise we should be able to read the plain image.
Where should I look? (google doesn't help much here) and can libjpeg and stamp do this kind of stuff for me?

If you want a graphical solution, then the Gnome image viewer GThumb should be of use. You just have to hit "c" for the comment menu to come up.

Take a look at
This library allows to insert JPEG comments and do some other tricky stuff. It's Java, however it isn't much differ than C.
