Javadoc in Eclipse not displaying

Hi there,
I'm having a problem with Eclipse 3.2 on linux.
When mouse is over an object of lets say String, which is standard java, then no javadoc appears. It only prints :

This element neither has attached source nor attached Javadoc and hence no information could be found.

I have jre 6 installed in /usr/share .

I just dont get it ... Any clue ?

thanks

Here's one way to fix this, although it's slow: In the Package Explorer on the left side of Eclipse, find the JRE System Library entry under your project. Open that up (click on the arrow next to the entry). For each of the JAR files listed, right-click and select Properties. On the Properties dialog, select the Javadoc Location category, and then you can enter the URL to the Javadoc files. My entries are all to the online archive, "http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/".

Hi -

The method sjr suggested, setting the Javadoc location using "Package Explorer, JRE System Library, Javadoc location" is *the* way to do it under Eclipse. That's by design: Sun ships the Javadoc separately from the SDK, and Eclipse needs to provide you as much flexibility as you need to access your documentation.

It's not necessary to point to the remote URL, however.

On my system, I simply download the Javadoc from http://java.sun.com (it's in a .zip file), and modify package explorer to use the Javadoc on my hard drive. It's fast, and effective.

Just FYI, NetBeans works the same way.
