java preferences - where are they stored

I am trying to understnd where java preferences are stored

based on web search I understand they are somewhat like windows registry - stored out there somewhere.

web suggested things like hidden files or directories - and i've look all over th eplace withour result

on Fedora 14

the issue - trying to start a program. got part way in and had given some info and then it blew.

it still remembers my iput - which may have been wrong

ive looked at code and see it uses the java preferences system - wpould like to find and erase.

any help would be ppreciated

No, it's not a global, monolithic repository (like the Windows registry).

It's more like "app.config" files in .Net (or, deja vu all over again) like .ini files in a local install directory.

The Java "properties" API simply reads "name=value" pairs from a text file. These pairs can also be set using "-D" from the Java command line.

You can find many (but certainly not all!) predefined system properties in your %JAVA_HOME%\lib folder.

'Hope that helps .. PSM
