java new version wont update

Hello All,

I have recently installed jdk1.6 on my fedora box.earlier I had java version 1.4.
After installation I can see both the directories(1.4 and 1.6 ) in my "/usr/java"..

I have checked the java version in each of these directories and they are as they are suppose to be..BUT when I am not in these directories and

java -version

I get a response...of

Code:
java version "1.4.2_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_06-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_06-b03, mixed mode)
It seems that java1.6 is installed, but It has not been updated for the whole system.Any suggestions would be highly appreciable..

thanks in advance..

I don't know if Fedora has the same setup as Slackware, but I suppose so:

Look at the /etc/profile.d/jre-xxx.sh scripts. You have probably for each java version one, and thus the path is set to the old one. Just disable the one for the old version.
