Java, implementing Serializable

I'm writing a client/ server card game in Java. I have images of the cards and i want to use them. What is the best way to do this??? Should i put the images on the Server side and have the server pass the image and object to the client through a stream. Or should i have the client have their own deck of cards and have the server pass a card object that identifes which card should be used.

For example new card(int rank, char suit) //where rank is 1-13, and suit is c- clubs, h - hearts...and so forth.

Another thing if i pass an object through a i/o stream, does the same object class need to be on the clients side too????

Thanks...
