Java compiler

If I asked you what Java compilers you used would you say J2SE, J2EE or would you say something like JDK 1.4.09 or what would you say? What exactly is the compiler(I know what a compiler is but was asked what Java compilers I have used in an interview. Kinda Threw me)?

I'd say the compiler would be something like Sun J2SE JDK 1.5.0_07 or IBM Jikes 1.22.

i would probably say javac and give you a version number with it.

oops i didnt read your entire post. in that case, in an interview, first thing i would do is ask them to clarify and be sure that they mean actual compilers, and are not lumping IDEs in with the question. If they do mean compilers (which would be weird) i would say the Java Compiler (javac) that comes standard with JDK <version numbers>, and the compiler eclipse uses.
