Isometric game engines?

I am planning a game that has an isometric tile-set. I am wondering if anyone knows of any existing game engines that can render this. Some games I know of that use isometric tile-sets are Head Over Heels, Sim City 2000, and the older games in the Strike series. I do not know enough programming to build something like this from the ground up, but if there is an existing engine for this, it would be much easier for me to at least present a preliminary project in order to get other developers interested.

NOTE: This will not use 3D, such as OpenGL.

Thanks.

The way a game I'm porting to Linux for fun does it by blitting 4 square tiles in a square with the main tile on the lower left. All it takes is a few for loops. It is important that the for loops go from left to right and top to bottom, to prevent over blitting things in a way that doesn't render in the way you want it to.

I am part of a small programming group called Neuroponic. We have plans to do an isometric game (isometric as in Xcom or Transport Tycoon). We might be looking for extra developers; it would be nice if you contacted me.

Hi Nik_89, I'm am a newbie C++ programmer, and I would like to know if it is ok to just review you and your programming groups techniques on programming games, or other programs. I've been reading C++ for dummies and reading www.cplusplus.com's tutorials for over a year now, and I picked up a book on game programming with allegro. I may be of some help, though I wouldn't expect much. But I would like to just gain knowledge on how things can be done. Sry, couldn't pm you, had to be a contributing member to do so.

Hello RHLinuxGUY,

our group's main programming language is C. We use C because it is much easier to port to other platforms than C++. We do know that the Object Oriented part of C++ makes development faster but we, instead, decided to implement our own OOP techniques to the programs. Our current main library is SDL; but I have been working on a library to make the use of such libraries like SDL abstract (I intend to put support for SDL and for ggi and maybe others, who knows ;P). Here is a link to a wiki we have that explain our goals and what we are currently working on http://wikihost.org/wikis/spacepro/ .
If you want to contact me, do so. My contact informations are in my profile of this forum.
