Is there such a thing as a simple benchmarking program?

I have gotten my Playstation running Linux and am trying to figure out the best way to calculate things. I can use the main processor or the two floating-point processors.
Is there an easy way to find out how fast something executes? If not, is there a simple benchmark library?

Thanks

seti at home can give you some idea of your systems power, but odds are it won't exist for a ps2 (dunno didn't check).

there is something called nbench though which will tell you how fast your system is ... it doesn't test your gfx and so forth potential, rather your straigh number crunching abilities.

you can get it here : http://www.tux.org/~mayer/linux/bmark.html

there is also a link to a baseline on that page

Thanks for the link. I might try that program out or I might see if I can build my own from their idea. But first, I'll have to find out whether the PS2's Kernel uses the vector processors, or if I'd have to tell the benchmark program to use them.

Alright ... you've done it, you've raised my curiosity.

Being here and a little bandwidth restricted, tell me, what's a good starting point to find out about this PS2 Linux thing?

I'll check myself as soon as my bandwidth frees uo (open office hurrah!)

I just started a Playstation Linux section on my web site ( http://www.TravisDart.com/ps2 ). If you don't find that to be of any use, I've got links to other PS2 Linux sites.
