okay so i have the following RPM's:
SDL-devel-1.2.7-1.rpm, SDL-1.2.7-1.i386.rpm, SDL-1.2.7-1.src.rpm...
i would like to begin developing in SDL so i can port stuff from linux to win if need be... anyway. I'm getting some errors while trying to install these rpm's, the only one that seems to not give me an error message is SDL-1.2.7-1.src.rpm.
<console>
$ rpm -i SDL-1.2.7-1.i386.rpm
file /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0 from install of SDL-1.2.7-1 conflicts with file from package SDL-1.2.5-3.
</console>
This leads my newb logic to the conclusion that I have a previous version of SDL installed... (plz let me know if i am wrong tho, i AM a newb). but my limited rpm knowledge suggests that perhaps i need to remove my previous SDL rather than over writing it.
<console>
$ rpm -iv SDL-1.2.7-1.src.rpm
SDL-1.2.7-1
</console>
I'm assuming that because there where no error messages, just the output 'SDL-1.2.7-1' that it installed this rpm...
<console>
$ rpm -i SDL-devel-1.2.7-1.i386
file usr/include/SDL/(some .h, or .cpp file) from install of SDL-devel-1.2.7-1 conflicts with file from package SDL-devel-1.2.5-3
#repeat that line several times but w/ a dif. file each time.
file usr/lib/libSDL.a from install of SDL-devel-1.2.7-1 conflicts with file from package SDL-devel-1.2.5-3
#repeat that one as well but w/ dif. lib files.
</console>
so i guess my question is... wtf?
or, more specifically, what do these errors mean exactly? and how do i get these rpm's to install w/o a hitch?
thx for any help,
fatherg
