Installing php on CentOS 4.2

Hello,
I am trying to configure the latest version of php on Apache webserver. I am finding it hard to see the similarites between php on win and linux. I understand loading your modules. But specifying your php ini file is leading me to major confusion. Can someone please explain the diff of php on linux compared to php on windows in the configuration method.

Can you provide more details about exactly what you are trying to do and where you are facing problems. PHP on Windows and Linux is basically the same.

clarification

I am trying to install php support on Apache:
php installation dir is /php

I ran:
cd /php
then
./configure
make
make install
cp php.ini-dist /usr/local/lib/php.ini
**my question is how does the httpd.conf know to look for the php.ini in this lib dir.**

then since Im using php 5
I added these line to my httpd.conf file

Loadmodule php5_module libexec/libphp5.so

and

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml

I guess to clarify my question in Win you add these two line and phpini dir "c:/dirname"
Like what is linux's regime for apache knowing where the php ini is?

this is the best way I can translate my question so I hope this is clear
