i like java
I have seen packages that came with my Linux install for Java programming. How can I use these and learn about them. Is there a way to compile Java into machine langauge? Are there compilers that come with Linux for Java?

1) Start learning the syntax. Pick up a book or read at java.sun.com
2) Yes, gcj which is a part of the gcc family of compilers can make Java code into a native executable.
3) Yes, gcj and the compiler in Sun's Java SDK.

JDK from java.sun.com compiles java source code into bytecode. if that is what you are talking about, it has to have the java virtual machine to interpret the code.
