.htaccess and gallery

I am installing gallery, and I have done it before (had to restore) only this time I get the error "Warning! Apache is not obeying .htaccess file." then it suggests to enter these lines into my httpd.conf (which I did, and restarted apache, many times)

"<Directory /var/www/gallery>
AllowOverride Options FileInfo
</Directory>"

but it still errors out, any ideas?

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
