All good at well, but it's Q4 2012, and I'm trying to resolve the same issue on a Netgear RNDP6000, which runs Debian Etch :p
And upgrading it is out of the question.
That said, haven't quite managed to sort out an answer... there are /sys/bus/acpi/devices/LNXCPU* but nothing thermal. The fans do kick on automatically when things get hot, and I (for some reason) presume this is software driven.
Unfortunately the only thing i know supports ACPI for sure, is the power button. Are (*cough*) Were there any packages for Etch?
