Question how to connect to ODBC from a C program?

hi
I want to connect to odbc to use a Mysql database in RedHat 9.0.
in the Makefile there is :
LINK_LIBRARIES_FLAGS = -lodbc++ $(SMS_LINK_LIBRARIES_FLAGS) -lpthread
and when I make it I meet many errors like this :
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/3.2.2/../../../libodbc++.so: undefined reference to `cerr'
this program has worked perfectly under RedHat 7.3 but in version 9 doesn't.
how should I install libodbc++ and where can I find needed rpm?
thanks if u guide me
