How to Change the Cursor Color in Ncurses

Is there a way in ncurses to directly change the cursor color? I have written an ncurses program that uses multiple colors on screen, and I can't seem to figure out and control what color the cursor itself will be at any time. I can completely control the colors of everything I display on the screen but the cursor color itself seems to shift between black and the current foreground color. I can't figure out what causes it to shift between these two, and I can't find any ncurses interface that will allow you to directly set the cursor color. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
