Question How to access linux clipboard thru a C program!

Hello,
I want to access the linux clipboard buffer from a C program. Is it possible to read from or write into clipboard thru a C program. How to do this? I did a search for this on the internet, but didnt find any useful information. All I want is, accessing clipboard area using my C program. Are there any system calls to do the job.

How this linux clipboard works? I am using Red Hat GNU/Linux 8.0. Does anyone has some idea? Thanks.
