How do I fix this assignment problem C++ compiler error in GCC?


If you download the C++ source code here, then please continue reading on:

I'm using Debian Sarge and I tried to do some GCC - *.cpp and it kept spewing out errors.

See if you get them and if you do, how do I fix them?

Did you actually type "gcc *.cpp"? If so, that can cause a lot of problems because it forces things to link that might not be intended to be linked with each other.

I belive that you need to use the g++ frontend rather than the gcc frontend. I tried the compilations using Fedora Core 3 (sorry, but I don't have Debian). Using gcc results in numerous c++ compilation errors, but using the g++ frontend works.

I took the time to fix the code to compile cleanly under GCC 3.4.4 with -Wall -W -ansi -pedantic. It was written in 1996 it seems, before C++ was standardized. The edited files complete with Makefile can be found here:
