how can I draw flowcharts with utf-8 characters

I need to include flowcharts in html documents, there is a program in the Debian packages that does that but is is "broken". Can any one suggest how to do this? (I have used Dia for other purposes but I do not think it is possible to make HTML take the output of Dia)

Thank you for your help.

You can export Dia files as image files (*.jpg, for example), then link to them as images in HTML documents. They should display quite nicely, though you may wish to fine-tune them in am image editor, such as The GIMP of Kolourpaint.

Otherwise, you will need to provide much more detail, such as the name of the Debian package you refer to and what precise error message tells you that is is broken. The name of the "broken" package is important as it will help persons understand what precisely you are trying to do.

Thank you for the enlightenment. I have completely forgotten the name of the package, I got a comment "broken" and a red square when I tried to install it with Synaptic, I am not even sure it does what I need.

That means you have broken dependency chains in your system, not that there is anything wrong with any one package.
Likely you have been mix and matching packages from different repo's.

The installation of Debian 7 was made solely from a set of DVD and the apt/sources list (not sure of the precise spelling) was not modified after the auto-generation so I doubt there was any mix at all but the kernel is occasionally complaining about failing commit by my hard drive which seems to be dying, I have a new one on order and it is probably best not to try anything else till the new hard drive has taken over since it is possible some corruption has occurred.
