Help with XPath please

Hi all, I wonder if someone can help me with an XPath problem.
I've got an IXMLDOMNodeList, which contains <Channel> tags. Each of these has an "id" attribute, uniquely identifying it. What I wondered, was is there a quick way to jump straight to a particular tag, based on the value of this attribute? At the moment, I'm iterating through the entire list to find the one I want, but this is hopelessly slow (it's a very big file). Any help will be much appreciated.
