The easiest way to do what you want is to download the Ksim source and reprogram Ksim to use your ideas.

"i want to program it from scratch with assistance from Ksim's cource when i need it.."

The usual way to teach a beginning programmer is to have the beginning programmer make changes or add features to a program written by an experienced programmer, and if possible, have the beginning programmer work under the supervision of the experienced programmer who wrote the code. You will learn much more and much faster by figuring out the code written by the experienced programmer than you will by tackling the problem from scratch. Most beginning programmers dislike this approach because it does not give you the artistic satisfaction of creating your own masterpiece. The quickest way to arrive at a masterpiece is to learn programming by studying experienced programmer's code. Then when you have mastered programming you can launch into writing your own masterpiece from scratch. You are not going to both learn and write masterpieces simultaneously.

Incidently, this also holds true for art, music, and cooking.

Maybe compare it to a similar app like GKrellm to see the similarities and differences in structure.
