why is ./configure looking for 'install.sh'? doesn't install come AFTER config?

install-sh is a generic script for setting up configuration items. You need it, simply because configure expects it. On the upside, many install-sh files are pretty much the same, so you can probably take another install-sh script and modify it to suit your program relatively easily. Look around your system (using the 'locate' command), and you should find a few, especially if you've installed a few downloaded programs (outside of apt or rpms). Compare them, using the 'diff' command, and you'll see the differences in the various files, which usually isn't much. I recommend using the '-y' option with diff, as it allows you to compare two files side by side, though opening two terminals and jumping back and forth can be useful as well.

Hope this helps a little.
