gtk and C, draw a grid and place images

Hi,

I decided to learn some GTK with C. My plan is to start a small sw that can place images from local files (small sized images, say 32x32pixels) on the screen according to a predefined grid. Is there any way to do it? Or am I trying something impossible? I want to be able to add new images using my mouse and some keyboard strokes too. My goal is to have this sort of a circuit editor.

Thanks for any help

I am looking into GtkFixed widget now. I believe it kills the problem.
