How to do GSM/GPRS application in Linux?What are the steps to be followed?

What kind of an application you're planning to make? One talking to a modem or performing some of the task of the GSM protocol stack?

dear Mara,

thank you very much for the reply.Here some details

i have one hand held Point of sales terminal(linux base),which is having GSM modem.I want to send the transaction details ,made on this ,to a server (SQL) which is having an IP address.

So you need to dial to set up the connection. That's done using pppd with some extra dialer that makes it easier, like kppp (graphical) or wvdial.
