Howdy, I'm relatively new to Qt and KDevelop programming, though an experienced C and C++ programmer in general, and looking for some good resources about writing portable code to run under Linux and Windows.
I'm been looking into migrating to KDevelop (Most of my work has been in Visual Studio), as programming for Linux has become a growing concern. However, one of the things that attracted me was that KDevelop could not only create applications for KDE, but for other Linux window-managers and for Windows as well. The idea of being able to write my code once carefully and just recompile for a target seemed too good to be true.
I've gone through many basic tutorials for KDevelop after doing a simple Google search, the most informative being the set of articles containing
http://women.kde.org/articles/tutori.../creating.html and have been able to make simple KDE applications. However, they are still tied to KDE, not just Qt, and definitely not portable.
Tutorials I found via simple search did not lead to much progress in terms of increased portability or successful cross-compiling. Trying to tinker with the KDevelop environment without really knowing what I was doing just lead to a lot of frustration. I was wondering if there were any good resources (online or in book form) about writing portable Qt code, and how to cross-compile from KDevelop into a Windows executable. A good guide to manipulating the KDevelop environment would also be useful.
Thanks in advance.
