Unhappy Gnu C Compiler, and compiling c++ in slackware?

Well ive gotten slackware installed, and im curious to at where to code my programs; do i code in vi, joe, or some text file and compile somehhow with gcc? or is there special enviroments to code in? I would really appreciate a c++ tutorial for slackware, gcc, or linux... its a big change from my old crappy win compiler...

You might want to check out CheckInstall to manage source code installations/uninstallation

# What compiler version do I have installed
gcc -v
gcc --version
