Getting Started Building Memory Test Program

Hello,

I am having problems getting started building a program to test RAM memory for Linux. I am not a programming guy so my hope is I can find something open and prebuilt online and then if I need to alter it I can make slight changes myself.

The requirements are it needs:
1. To test a range of memory with user supplied start and stop address.
2. Need to have source code so it can be cross-compiled to arm.

Any help getting started would be appreciated.
