gd.pm png problem

i've run into an interesting problem with GD.pm.

http://stephenroller.com/storage/uploaded/uglygd.png

You should notice that the picture on the left is a bit speckly. The image on the right is the original png. The image on the left is a cgi script that contains only:

Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl

use CGI ':standard';
use CGI::Carp 'fatalsToBrowser';
use GD;

$img = GD::Image->new('2113.png');
print header("image/png");
print $img->png();
can anyone explain if i've done something wrong?
