free used memory

I am running a script that is very memory intensive.

it runs like:
1) get 1m records
2) process them
3) update
4) mark source
5) repeat from #1

my server memory usage is

cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 2049980 kB
MemFree: 10020 kB

so i am trying to allow more free memory

You haven't provided enough information for me to be sure. But I think you are worried about a non problem that worries a lot of people who look at Linux memory use stats without really understanding them.

If that doesn't explain things well enough, provide more details about your situation to get a more specific explanation.

Don't go down the common bad path of "fixing" something that was never broken, making performance actually get worse.
