Frame grabbing

Hi, I have some problems with framegrabbing with my webcam (Eyetoy). The Camera works in cheese.

I started with video4linux. However reading

Code:
--> cant read	          if (!(v4lcap.capabilities & V4L2_CAP_READWRITE))

--> is capture device             if(!(v4lcap.capabilities & V4L2_CAP_VIDEO_CAPTURE))

--> no streaming            if(!(v4lcap.capabilities & V4L2_CAP_STREAMING))
So I am pretty unsure how to get the stuff out of the camera. Nevertheless I tried

Code:
read(device,&picture,3*width*height);
I just get zeroes and some 4E-19, --> so 0.

For it works with cheese I tried gstreamer. However I have no idea how to get the data out of the pipes. I need the data in a width x height x 3(rgb) matrix.

thanks for help
