Forum Creation

I have some experience in PHP and other langauges. I would like to create a forum for my personal website. I really don't know where to start. I have some ideas I know I want the database to store my users and allow them to log in and then post or comment. I was thinking of createing a structure in my database where I have a table of with a Text field and then make another table liked to a paticular post id where comments could then be liked and the rows in Posts and Comments table could be linked to UserID. Is there a better way to store this. Also any links to tutorials would be great.

Dont...just grab a script somewhere and use that. Pro : it's ready to use and someone else tinkers with it...con (maybe) iy's not your creation, but...why re-invent sliced bread?
