Force feedback joysticks

I would like to know if, and how, it is possible to use force feedback in Linux. I have some experience with reading from /dev/js0 directly, and currently I use SDL (which of course reads from /dev/js0), but I can't remember that I saw anything about force feedback.

If this is not possible with SDL (and/or with the kernel driver), then I'd like to make some contributions to these projects (I first have to buy a force feedback joystick of course). Hopefully force feedback isn't based on closed standards...

hi,
i've messed around with my force feedback wheel a bit and have managed to get it to work to an extent. it seems to be the case that linux is plenty capable of it and the drivers are all there, but the bit between the drivers and the games is missing. i.e. wine doesnt support force feedback (to my knowledge). you being in the 'programming' forum (i've never been in here before!!! ) it'd be great to see some or hear of some ways of getting games/simulations to use the force feedback. thats the part that i dont know where to begin.

i've got a thread going;

and i'll put up a how-to once i've got a bit further.
