fat fs code explanation

could some1 help me understand what the functions fat_get_block,
fat_file_write , default_fat_file_write ,fat_file_truncate do ?

these are functions inside file.c found in
/usr/src/linux/fs/fat

also....how does the kernel invoke these functions when say im reading or writing a fat file?

is some table maintained ?

the documentation in the source is not sufficient to understand....comments inside the code are also not very helpful...please...
help...
