errors compiling c++ in kdevelop

folks

i get the following error compiling a c++ program using kdevelop: (sorry, small screen dump)

./src/libsrc.a
gmake[3]: execvp: ./src/libsrc.a: Permission denied
gmake[3]: *** [trajectory] Error 127
gmake[3]: Leaving directory `/home/adriaan/thesis/trajectory/trajectory'
gmake[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/home/adriaan/thesis/trajectory/trajectory'
gmake[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/home/adriaan/thesis/trajectory'
gmake: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
*** failed ***

I cannot understand why its denying me permission that file, the whole project (inc. that file) is located in my home folder where it was created initially under my user account.

whats the deal, and how can it be fixed?
thanks

Just because a file was created by you in your home area does
not necessarily give you read/write or executable access to it.

Do a ls -la on src to examine the permissions for the various files in that directory.

I'd be happy to assist you further with this.

ok, well i did that and sure enough it was owned by root, so i changed that.

however, i also noted that it wasnt writable, so i changed that. however, it would seem that when i hit the compile again (hoping that it would work) it changes the libsrc.a file back to read-only, and throws and error.

this is baffling!! and very frustrating.

ideas anyone?

on another note, i am porting this program from microsoft visual c++. perhaps someone can offer an alternative to Kdevelop that might not present these issues?

my project is large so an IDE is desirable!

thank you
