encrypted password 64 characters?

The encrypted password in shadow file consists of 13 to 24 characters from the 64 character alphabet [a-zA-Z0-9./]

But I have an extra [$] character within the encrypted password. Can anyone tells me why? Is that normal?

I believe that is a delimiter between the password and salt, and is used for some other GNU extensions. Check out the man page for crypt, if you have it (or google for it).
