Does a flash library exist for software development?

I'm planning a project that will involve playing flash files. I need to do this without a browser or Xwindows installed.

Is there an existing library that will give me access to the functionality that I need without limiting me to using a plugin?

Thanks for any input,

There used to be libflash, but I think it got
merged with the plugin code

The GPL flash library isn't very good, you may want
to look elsewhere and I think you are going to need
Xwindows unless you want to port the drawing backend
to svgalib or directfb or whatever you're using.

Thanks for the quick reply LogicG8. I'll have a look at that and see if will do.
