Disable screen locking in some games?

Hello!

I'm a Gfire developer, Gfire is a Xfire plugin for Pidgin.

What i want is to implement ingame chat, like Xfire. Xfire does that by hooking the game and draws a window in the game. As i do not know how to hook, i thought it would be a good start to have the possibility to disable the screen locking by some games.

Someone on IRC said this isn't OpenGL-related but is managed by your window manager. I use metacity, but would it be possible to disable when launching a program (game)?

Thanks, kind regards.

There are lots of different mechanisms for locking the screen - different window managers probably approach it differently. freedesktop.org tried to harmonise mechanisms for this sort of thing - providing standards for doing things accross different desktop environments. You might find something there.

I always thought destop locking was done by grabing the keyboard and mouse in X. I have no idea if its possible to stop this, short of a modified X server.
