DirectShow for Linux.

Although i did search on various newsgroups , google and on this forum i couldn't find anything that was useful. Does anyone know if something similar exists for Linux in order to control cameras ( USB , 1394 etc ) or everything i've read was true and that MS doesn't let any kind of porting to Linux from Windows regarding DS ?

I did find some streaming controlling APIs ( GStreamer ) but it's not what i am looking for.

Not entirely sure what you want but for capturing images (as in MS you would use DirectShow) from something like a webcam, have a look at Video4Linux http://www.exploits.org/v4l/

thanks for the link , i was looking at it few minutes before you post. Video For Linux is similar to Video For Windows which was , let's just say , the older version of DirectShow. It will do for now. Unfortunately though it offers much less than DirectShow but we shouldn't be selfish =)
