Lightbulb Developing StickyNote Application

Hi y'all,
What would be a good tech/language to develop some kind of sticky note application? I'm a java developer but didn't feel like doing that job on java. There is an example which runs on windows, called TurboNote I've found some similar on linux(XPAD, KNOTE) but they don't do a few things as I'd like it to do i.e.: sending notes through the Lan network in an specific port and to communicate to that Turbonote in another windows machine... Well that's all, what do ya guys reckon?

Well you're going to be writing a network daemon and client basically, so I would recommend doing it in a language you're familiar with networked applications in.

You should also decide if you're using a framework or doing it scratch up and if it works with KDE and Gnome integrally... which really kinda limits the languages down a bit.

thanks rweaver,
Thinking about your reply, it should be a good opportunity for me to start learning something new as I don't have date to get this application done. All fellows who uses linux here in the office are running on GNOME. What'd be a nice language which provides network communication between clients?
