design doc for opensource project

I start looking into opensource projects and try to to understand them. I don't often see a design doc on their download site.

Does anyone know if they usually distribute the design doc with opensource projects, specifically filezilla.

I only know of a few open source projects that have explicit design documents of any sort. Your best shot is to just jump into the source code and ask questions on the -devel mailing list. Filezilla shouldn't be too hard because graphical apps are usually organized in an object oriented fashion and the protocol it implements (ftp clientside) is well known.
