DBM functions don't work in PHP

I am unable to user the dbm functions in PHP.

I get the error:

Undefined function dbmopen() in index.php.

Whenever I try to execute the script or through the web-browser.
Can anybody help?

Oh dear! PHP came preinstalled with the system and I don't have the source code.

If I reinstall from another source, will my original PHP installation get correctly overwritten or should I delete it manually.

Considering prebuilt packages might install PHP in another location I think it would be a good idea to uninstall your package first.
I think rpm is fedoras default package manager or whatever it is called... do a man rpm for how to uninstall them

I downloaded the PHP documentation and found that the DBM functions are deprecated. Though why, I cannot understand. DBM functions are quite easy to use and aren't bound by any external database.
