Question CORBA Help

I am trying my best to understand the CORBA but I was not able to grasp the concepts. If any one can provide a simple example I would be very thankful to you. Like If one application is in C and other application in JAVA. Can anyone provide me simple example how I use CORBA to communicate each other.

Thanks in Advanced.

Hi -

Until recently, I thought CORBA was "oh-so-1985" (I thought CORBA was obsolete. Ancient history. A nearly-forgotten technical footnote). But it's still alive and well, and major companies like IBM are still using CORBA as the cornerstone of many of their distributed architectures.

So what is it, and how can you learn about it?

If you're programming on Linux, "Orbit" might be a good CORBA implementation to start with:

'Hope that helps .. PSM

I highly recommend the book, Advanced CORBA Programming with C++ by Michi Henning and Steve Vinoski. It is well written and very informative. This book is very highly respected. Even if you do not use C++, this book is helpful. I used this many years ago and I was using Tcl to program CORBA.

I think there will always be a place for CORBA as it fills a nice little niche. For a good cross platform RPC mechanism, it is quite nice to use. It sucks over the internet, but works well in a LAN environment. It is only when you start to try to use all the "fancy" stuff (notification, transaction, etc.) that you realize how half baked things get. For simple RPC, it is pretty good, though.
