Unhappy compile( gcc-g77) fortran with fedora core 3

hi,
I'm a new user of linux and so I know only few things about it.
I installed fedora core 3, I updated it and all is ok. Now I want to compile a fortran program. I know that in fedora I have the compiler gcc-g77-3.4.3 but I dont' Know the syntax to carry out my program and after a lot of useless researches I don't know how I can do. can you tell me, if you know, the syntax or where do I find it ?
Another question! I used xemacs like text editor but I'd like to download one more suitable for fortran. do you know what and where?
thank you very much

Cri
