Question cannot create sym link


when I am making symlink to a shell script it display error:
cannot create symlink to 'xyz' : operation not permitted.

what is the solution of this problem?

could be all sorts of things, please provide some useful information for us to go on... what *is* "xyz" ?? what are you actually trying to do?

You would have to have execute permission in the directory where you are putting the link. Also, I have found it best to always "link in"---meaning that I always make the link while in the target directory---like so:

ln -s /somedir/somedir/filename <linkname>

(If linkname is omitted, then it uses filename by default)

I am making a link to a shell script "xyz" (location is: "/root/abc/xyz")
let linkname is "asd" and location of link is same (location is: "/root/abc/asd").
I am executing command from "/root/abc/" dirctory. COmmand is :
"ln -s /root/abc/xyz asd"
its giving me error: Cannot create symlink to 'xyz'peration not permitted.
I have execute permission in that dirctory.
